MATE offers services in several experimental aquaculture installations:

1. MATE-POND is an outdoor experimental and semi-industrial scale earthen pond system: 9 x 3500 m2; 15 x 1700 m2; 8 x 500 m2; and in largest ponds we offer installation of cages of the following sizes: 17 x 4 m2; 42 x 4 m2; 23 x9 m2; 6 x 18 m2. This unit is applicable for studies on various species, age classes and fields of study. Broodstock is made available for pond experiments upon request. MATE PON is suitable for a wide range of outdoor experiments, including the applicability of feed additives; nutrient dynamics in pond ecosystems; integrated fish production systems (in-pond-cage and in-pond-tank systems); and nutrient remediation trials in wetlands.

2. MATE-RAS is a recirculation aquaculture system (RAS) composed of five independent units i) larviculture system for percids and cyprinids (12x250L cylindro-conical tanks and 12x2L egg incubation Zug jars); ii) larviculture system for sturgeons and catfish (8x250L raceway type tanks, 6x8L egg incubation Zug jars); iii) 18-tank juvenile system composed of three identical and separated systems (6x1 m3 tanks) with independently managed temperature (15-25 C0); iv) 27- tank complex system (27x2m3 tanks); v.) quarantine system (3x5 m3 raceway tanks suitable for seasonal and out-ofseason reproduction trials); vi) disease challenge system with flexible tank lay-out. MATE RAS is suitable for the trials on the breeders, eggs, larvae and juveniles in almost all freshwater European species. The disease challenge system is used for challenge tests with bacteria (Aeromonas hydrophila) either for independent studies or linked to experiments in other systems. Supporting staff is skilled in the technological solutions for propagation and rearing in almost all freshwater aquaculture species offering a wide range of trials on larvae and juveniles in various fields (genetics, welfare, nutrition).

3. MATE NUTRI is RAS installation for nutritional investigations consists of i) a RAS with 30x250L tanks and ii) a larvae rearing RAS with 6x260L cylindro-conical tanks and 9x120L raceways; suitable for both cool and warm water species. Labs for chemical analysis of feed and fish (proximate composition, fatty acid, amino acid) are available. The production of experimental scale extruded feed 25-30kg/batch is possible with a single screw extruder (Abrazive, Hungary). MATE NUTRI specialises in feeding trials, suitable for benchmarking experiments, and comparative testing of additives in feed recipes. Scientific staff can provide support in the development of new feeds, novel feed additives and the analysis of their effects (i.e. physiological, economic, and consumer reception).

4. MATE Danio-Lab is an Aquaneering zebrafish facility with configurable tank number and volume (20x1.4L or 12X2.5L or 6X6 L). Equipment for breeding, hatching, and rearing is available. Analysis and imaging of fish with stereo microscopes and cameras are also available. The lab is equipped with a fluorescent microscope adapter, including a GFP detection spectrum accompanied by a high-quality camera. MATE Danio-Lab meets the international standards of zebrafish housing possessing the following lines: AB wild type; Casper; tg{vas::egfp}. Several brooders or 2-6 batches of embryos per week are provided upon request. Additional services: digital imaging – stereo microscope level. No external line can be introduced to the facility.

5. MATE GENO-LAB is a genomics laboratory equipped with sequencers, PCR, and real-time PCR, etc. MATE GENO-LAB offers access to equipment to perform molecular work, including DNA-RNA isolation; cDNA preparation; quality check; library preparation; real-time PCR; genotyping; Sanger and nanopore sequencing.

6. MATE CBL is a Laboratory for Cell Biology equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for Cell Biology and Cell Culture work - laminar flow hoods, incubators with and without CO2 control with the additional option to control both CO2 and O2 concentrations through a ProOx C21 CO2/O2 controller and a C-Chamber, fluorescent inverted microscope and smaller instruments, including microinjection for cell transplantation (e.g., germline stem cells). MATE CBL is suitable for the completion of most Cell Culture/Cell Biology experiments with a primary focus on Reproductive Biology and Toxicology. The lab offers the possibility to conduct 2D, 3D or tissue cultures of various types, however, the exact type and form of culture needs to be discussed before the initiation of the experiment. Experiments can also be conducted on primary cell cultures or cell lines.
